Will led save money or not ? First part: Led life span.

1 LED lamp and 50 pcs of incandescent lamps

Before we explore will led save money or not, we need to know three methods of saving money.
First, average life span;
Second, luminous efficiency;
Third, average power use.

Today, we start with Life span.
Let’s try to make it short and easy for understand.
Normally incandescent lamp which we use is invented at 1878 by Thomas Edison.
Incandescent lamps burn the Tungsten inside, normally, it will run out after 1,000 hours or by suddenly electricity wave.
Then for protect the Tungsten, and make it burned out slowly, noble gases (such as halogen gas)are added into the lamps, and make it last at average 2,000 hours.

And fluorescent lamp appear later, it should be like tube, so you can not find any bulb like this, unless it makes into tube style. This kind of lamp are better performance in lighting put out and life time, but with Hg and Pb, which is not so good for environment, we can talk later if you are interested.
Fluorescent lamps’ average life time is about 6,000 hours.

Now for Led (Light-Emitting Diode), light out no gas needed, it is so called electroluminescence. which makes it even long life, Technically it can work at 50,000 hours in such way, also, consider about the other part of the lamp, such as driver, the average life time we can call it 30,000 hours. It is not means the chips are down, but the drivers inside limited the life time of the lamp.
When the cost of LED going down, now also can be used to replace the normal lighting systems.

So, here we can get a result, Why we say that LED save money.
1 LED lamp = 5 fluorescent lamp = 15 halogen lamp = 30 incandescent.
Feel better to pay more on LED?

Next time I will talk about the power use, every one said LED saving power, but how, and how much?
Hope you will be here soon.

Best regards
